Week 03.

I’ve had a lot of ups and downs over the first three weeks back on this course, things were pretty steady in week one, we were given the Room Project and I was off to a decent start having made 2 assets by the first week, I was comfortable. Unfortunately it all went downhill after bumping into a few glitches in week two. Thankfully this week was very productive, not only did I managed to rectify all the mistakes of week two, I was able to produce enough work to bring me up to scratch with where I should be at this point.

I set myself seven tasks in last week’s action plan and I completed all of them. Over the weekend I spent all of my time finishing what should have been accomplished in week two, this included re-modelling and unwrapping all five glass table jars, and unwrapping the lamp I modelled in week one, so that these assets were ready to be imported into UE4 for the team’s white box, and textured in week 4.

That left me to model and unwrap two new assets for our scene, the Dremel and the large Pestle & Mortar. The Dremel was a difficult tool to model as the reference I was using from the movie still was very unclear, the dremel was obscured somewhat so I had to guess what it looked like with the help of images of other dremels I found on the internet. The dremel had a very organic shape to it which also made it hard to model. Some may not know what it’s actually supposed to be, I can only hope with a good texture what it actually is suppose to be will come to light.

The Pestle & Mortar has got to be the easiest task I have set myself this project, again the movie still was very ambiguous but I was pretty easy to model what it was with the reference of other images on the internet. I actually prefer to model something easy perfectly than to model something complex with imperfections. The Pestle & Mortar ended up being ----- tris, if need be I can always trim the tri-count down.

Last week I told myself to get more involved with art, I needed to find artists and inspiration.

I also said I would attempt a paintover so I decided to do just a really quick paint of a car after being inspired by Khyzyl Saleem. The last time I drew a car was probably over five years ago, I found it very hard to say the least. What I ended up with was nothing more than a plan which I could work off later, this painting is FAR from being finished.

Artists I found:

Khyzyl Saleem

Jude Smith

“imGuss.”

Time Management:

I utilized all the time I had effectively this week hence the increase in work flow. I’m very satisfied with my productivity this week.

Action Plan:

Right, next week I am going to spend most of my time texturing, though before I start on that I would like to model a few more assets first. I also need to have a go at creating a material in UE4.

- Create 2 - 3 more low poly assets

- Make a glass material in UE4

- Texture ALL models
