I love to draw, it is what my life is about, though I only ever draw to improve my skills as an artist. If I ever draw anything less than what I had drawn previously I am nothing but disappointed. Recently I discovered that I actually have a strong interest in becoming a character artist; therefore my goal is to greatly improve my knowledge and sculpting skills in Zbrush as they are mandatory for this job. I strive to progress in my field as a character artist as I know I have the potential to be one of the best if I continue to optimise my time at university.

I always start by thinking of an appropriate mood and setting for the character, vehicle or prop I am going to create. An example of this is that a hostile environment would need a somewhat chaotic mood/feel to it and so to do this I would research into darker inspirations. I do a vast amount of research before attempting to make any designs, this research usually comes in the form of moodboards full of images I have gathered or photos I have taken myself. Being a big film buff I also study films surrounding the same theme of the project I am working on, this also helps a lot when it comes to generating ideas or creating the perfect mood/setting for an environment as in films they work for years on each piece, it is the perfect way to begin my research from professionals. Before sculpting the design I will always concept various ideas that come to mind, I always try to make each idea completely different and unique from the others so I know what type design path I want to go down whether these ideas be both good or bad. Once a main design is chosen I will then perfect it by making many iterations and tweaks. I never finish the final design until I think it cannot be improved.

From a while back I always had a knack for creating human figures with accurate anatomy without the use of references to aid, it was foolish of me not to use reference as now I see how much it can aid me and improve my art. When it comes to drawing characters I always build from a skeleton, this helps a lot when creating original poses especially. I have advanced skills in Photoshop allow me to create realistic and creative art which will always be improved over time. I also have intermediate skills in Zbrush to which I plan on expanding in the future with more practice.

Like any professional artist I am extremely motivated, even more so when working on a favourable topic. I always learn something new with each project I complete, whether it’s personal work or not, I’m always challenging myself to create something better than I made before.
